when i lost myself

Anonymous Snuggly Sprite #347 · General Confessions

i was this big law student trying to figure out my place in the world and suddenly there's this guy who needs me. it's not like a daddy or anything, just someone i'm supposed to take care of. he's older than me but somehow feels so helpless that it made sense. we started with some basic stuff, like him asking for help with grocery shopping and cooking dinner. then things got more intense, like helping him dress properly and taking care of his emotional needs too. we never talked about labels or anything formal, just did what felt right at the time. he'd call me teacher sometimes but mostly it was just like i'm here for you and we figure stuff out together. the turning point came when he got really sick one night and i had to rush him to the hospital. they kept him overnight and in that moment, watching over him as a nurse or a doctor passed by, something inside me shifted. it wasn't just about taking care of someone anymore, it was who i am now. the next day he thanked me for being there but i knew it went deeper than that. i couldn't stop thinking about how much i enjoyed that role, the way i felt when i made him smile again or helped him through a tough time. it's not like anyone else would understand this dynamic we have though, right? and now i'm questioning everything, wondering if this is okay for both of us. last night he asked me to be with him more, to take control in ways that made my heart race but also scared the hell out of me. we didn't use any labels but it was clear what he wanted and needed from me. i kissed his forehead and said yes, not knowing how much this would change things. so here's where i am now - caring for him feels so right and yet there's a part of me that wonders if i've lost myself somewhere along the way. i'm supposed to be figuring out law but instead it's about these nights spent making sure he's okay, holding his hand when he needs it most. i guess my confession is simple - i care too much maybe? and sometimes worry this isn't healthy for either of us.
