Feeling Like a Failure for Skipping My Chores
Anonymous Fuzzy Cupcake #815 · General Confessions
I'm really feeling down lately at work. I feel like everything is just going in circles and nothing ever changes. This week, my routine has felt particularly draining, but one thing that usually keeps me grounded is my relationship with my partner, Sarah. We've been doing Daddy/kitten dynamic for a while now, and it's given me some structure and emotional support outside of the office. But even this has had its downsides lately. Yesterday was especially tough. I'd promised myself and her that I would complete my household chores before she got home from work. The house needed vacuuming, laundry folding, and dishes washed. It felt like a mountain to climb after another dull day at the office where all I wanted to do was crash on the couch. Despite my best intentions, I let myself get sidetracked by scrolling through mindless social media instead of focusing on my duties. When Sarah arrived home, she was visibly disappointed in me. She felt that this broken promise undermined some trust between us and our dynamic's reliance on follow-through and discipline. It was a small thing, but it nagged at me all night long as I struggled to come up with ways to make amends for my failure. In retrospect, I see now how easy it is to slip into these kinds of patterns when you feel like nothing else in your life matters. My guilt over not doing the chores was a reflection of larger issues that needed addressing rather than just a chore list undone. It's made me realize that if this dynamic is going to work long-term, I need to find ways to make myself accountable and motivated on my own outside of Sarah pushing me towards those goals.
