When Work Meets Play

So, uh, yeah. You know that weird feeling when your brain just decides to take a vacation right at the moment you need it most? Yeah, I had one of those this afternoon. Got called into an emergency meeting with my team lead and HR about some project oversight issues. No big deal, but as soon as they started talking about process improvements, BAM! My mind went straight into little mode and I found myself practically salivating over the idea of being told what to do in a no-nonsense tone. Total brain fart. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not one for public displays or anything flashy. But there I was, all grown up (18+), sitting through this meeting like a good little software engineer should be, but mentally flipping out over the idea of having strict guidelines and rules to follow. Seriously? Shouldn't that be the last thing on my mind in an adult professional setting? Yeah, right. I mean, I got out of there without making a spectacle, but it was close. The next time someone tells me about process improvements at work, I'm probably going to need a serious caregiver scene waiting for me at home. Because apparently, being told what to do is the only way my brain can function when it comes to getting things done. Yep, another day in the life of an adult with weird, not-at-all-obvious kinks.
