...And I Realized Myself...

Anonymous Sleepy Kitten #608 · General Confessions

I’ve been married for 25 years. My wife is in her mid-40s and we have three kids together... two boys in college now, and a daughter who’s eighteen... about to start university next year. We’ve got the typical life of a middle-class family; decent jobs, good home, healthy children. No real drama or complaints... But lately, there’s been this nagging feeling that something isn’t right with me. I noticed it while at work last month. It was during one of my lectures on adult psychology and behavior... a subject where I’m expected to be an expert. One day, during a session about kinks and fetishes in adults, as we discussed dominance and submission dynamics, something clicked... I wasn’t sure what it meant for weeks. My wife is wonderful; she’s understanding of me being who I am... yet there are moments where I find myself fantasizing about playing a role that isn’t really part of my day-to-day life with her. It’s never been discussed... but these new thoughts have been creeping in... Last night, it finally dawned on me: maybe what I’m feeling is actually some kind of kink or fetish of my own... one I didn’t even know existed until just recently. I felt like a stranger to myself as this revelation settled in... I’ve never considered being anything but the husband and father everyone knows... But now, here’s the thing: during that psychology lecture, it hit me that maybe there’s something within me that longs for a bit of control and authority from another person... not my wife necessarily, but someone else... I don’t know who or how. And the thought has been gnawing at me ever since... So here’s my question to anyone out there: Am I alone in feeling this way? Have any other middle-aged men (or women for that matter) experienced something similar where they suddenly realized a deeper side of themselves regarding power dynamics and control in an adult context, but not necessarily with their spouse or partner? How do you deal with it?
