Lost Connection

Anonymous Sleepy Sprite #875 · General Confessions

I’ve been working at the local café for over a year now, just trying to make ends meet and maybe find some sense of belonging. The work is routine and not exactly fulfilling, but I’ve managed to keep my spirits up by indulging in the occasional fantasy or two during downtime. It’s not like I have many people I can talk to about it, everyone here seems content with a monotonous life without much spice. There was this one customer who’d come in pretty regularly; let's call him Alex for simplicity. We never really chatted, but there was something magnetic about the way he looked at me from across the counter when I served him coffee. It wasn’t anything overtly romantic or even particularly flirtatious, I’m not looking for love in a place like this, but there was an undeniable spark of mutual interest. One day, we both ended up waiting on line for the restroom during closing time and got into some light conversation while washing our hands. He asked if I was interested in exploring more adventurous play and hinted at his own tastes. At first, it felt exhilarating to know there might be someone out there who shared my kinks without needing an actual relationship or emotional attachment. We swapped numbers that night with the vague understanding of meeting up someday. But then reality hit hard: work stress piled on, a few close friends moved away due to jobs and such, and my phone would buzz every now and then but no real message ever came through from Alex beyond “Hey how’s it going?” I tried sending some texts back, initiating conversations, but they felt stilted, awkward. It was clear he wasn’t interested in pursuing anything more than casual conversation, let alone the kind of connection we had hinted at. Now, months later, I find myself stuck here again, watching people come and go without much change to my own life or situation. Every time a familiar face walks through that door, my heart flutters with hope for something different, something more, but mostly ends up broken as reality sets in once more.
