The Burden of Care

Anonymous Curious Marshmallow #504 · General Confessions

I've been caring for her now for over three years. She's my patient, but also someone I look after like a parent would. We started out with just the basics, feeding, bathing, and keeping up with doctor’s visits. But it grew from there... She trusts me so much that she lets me take care of things no one else can handle. It feels wrong, but right at the same time. There are times when I wish someone else could do this for her. There's a part of me that wishes I didn't have to be the one who helps her with everything intimate and private. But then there’s also the overwhelming sense of responsibility and love. She needs me, and I’m here because I want to help her live her best life despite her struggles. Sometimes, it feels like more than I can handle. Other times, it leaves me feeling empty inside.
