Breaking a Small Rule at Work

Anonymous Curious Bunny #449 · General Confessions

I'm a barista, and I'm not sure why, but little space feels so good for me sometimes. My mom calls me her baby girl and I feel like that's the only thing keeping me sane in this hectic job. Anyway, one day, the boss left us a note saying no snacks during service hours because we were getting crumbs everywhere. It was just such a small thing, you know? But when I saw those delicious chocolate chip cookies on the display case, it was hard to resist. So while everyone else was busy serving customers, I snatched one and tucked it into my apron pocket. As soon as I finished helping a customer, I slipped into the back room and gobbled up that cookie behind a closed door. The taste was heavenly, but guilt washed over me like never before. It's not like I'm going to be fired for this, nothing major, but it still felt so wrong, breaking such a small rule. I could feel her disappointment in my head even though she wasn't there. Now every time I see those cookies now, my stomach churns with guilt and the need to confess. Maybe if I make it up by working extra hard today? But what's done is done, and that's not going to fix how bad I feel inside. Maybe I just needed to be reminded who’s in charge, both at work and elsewhere.
