The Great DDLG Debate in Our Discord Server
Anonymous Bratty Plum #928 · General Confessions
So here's a confession that's kinda silly and kinda serious at the same time. I'm this software engineer who's pretty chill, but there’s this thing with my partner that we’re both into: we sometimes play little and big roles together. It started off as something cute and fun, like bedtime stories and gentle discipline, you know? But it's all consensual and very much a roleplay thing for us. Anyway, the other day, I was on this Discord server where I chat with some friends who also enjoy DDLG dynamics. We were having this heated debate about whether or not little roles should be played in public spaces, like in group chats or on forums. There's this one person there who’s really strict about it and thinks playing out little scenes outside a private setting is inappropriate. Now, I’ve always thought it was okay to share your experiences and talk about DDLG stuff publicly, as long as everyone knows the context and understands it's just roleplay. My partner and I have even talked about how sharing such moments can help break down stigmas around these kinks. But this debate got me thinking, am I really making others uncomfortable? Before we knew it, a few other members were chiming in with their thoughts too. One friend said they only play in private settings because of the risk of outing themselves to non-kinky friends or family. Another mentioned how important it is to be mindful of public spaces where casual participants might see these interactions and feel judged. I started wondering if I should pull back a bit from sharing my experiences so openly online, even if it’s in a space full of like-minded people. On one hand, why hide something that's part of who we are? But on the other hand, I don’t want to accidentally cause distress or misunderstanding. That’s when another friend posted this really long post about their own experiences with coming out and how crucial support from peers was for them. Reading it made me realize just how important these online communities can be. Maybe my sharing is helpful in a wider sense, but I need to make sure I’m not crossing lines by making anyone feel bad. In the end, we all agreed there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. What works for someone else might not work for you or your partner. It's okay to respect each other's boundaries and preferences while still enjoying our kinks together in a healthy way. Phew! Writing this out has really helped me clarify my thoughts, I hope it does the same for anyone who reads it.
