The Shoplifting Little One

So here's my little story. I'm a retail worker at this tiny bookstore downtown, the kind of place where everyone knows your name and there’s probably only about thirty books in stock at any given time. But that’s what makes it special, right? Anyway, one day, after closing up late one night, our store cat, Mr. Fluffles (yes, we named him), decided to go missing. Everyone was worried sick, but my boss suggested I look around the shop for him, just in case he'd somehow managed to hide inside. Long story short, I was rifling through some of the books and magazines trying to spot this elusive cat when I saw something that caught my eye, a little packet of candy hidden behind a display of old novels. Now, we have these weird rules about not eating in the shop (seriously? This is just a bookstore!), so seeing this little treat stashed away was intriguing. But wait, there’s more! As I’m investigating (yes, that's what you call it when you’re secretly snooping), I hear footsteps outside. Uh-oh! It’s the night manager coming back to check something, and as my heart sinks, he sees me digging around in a secret stash of candy hidden by someone (possibly myself? Haha). What happened next? Well, being the good little worker I am (though not always), I explained everything with an apologetic grin. The manager gave me a knowing look and said something along the lines of 'If you must sneak snacks at work, remember to put them back where you found them.' And that’s how it became this funny little episode in my life as a bookstore worker, me, the little one who got caught with her hands in the cookie jar (or candy packet in this case). Now, if I could go back and tell my younger self about this incident, I'd probably give myself a playful pinch on the cheek for being so naughty. But hey, everyone needs their moments of mischief, right? Let’s just hope Mr. Fluffles doesn’t get wind of me breaking one of our store rules!
