I Broke The No-Eating-At-Work Rule
Anonymous Whispering Peach #392 · General Confessions
So I started this job at the local grocery store a month ago. It’s been going pretty well, but there’s this one thing that’s been bugging me. You see, we have this strict rule about not eating while working because it looks unprofessional and it could be a safety hazard, especially with all those slippery floors and heavy lifting involved. I’ve tried really hard to follow the rules, like I said, it’s my first month, but there was one day when I just couldn’t resist. It was one of those days where you feel like your stomach is going to eat itself from hunger and everything in sight starts looking edible. I had this delicious sandwich in my lunch bag that smelled so good. I kept telling myself, “Just wait until the next break,” but it felt like hours before I could even get a moment alone with it. So eventually, when no one was looking, and trust me, I made sure nobody was watching, I slipped into a stock room and opened my lunch bag. There was this amazing chicken salad sandwich in there, so tasty and fresh. I took small bites, trying to savor each piece, but it just went down too fast. I know it’s against the rules, but honestly, it felt like I deserved that little treat after putting in such long hours. The worst part was that guilt feeling afterward; knowing deep down I should have waited. Now I’m worried about getting caught or being punished for this little indiscretion. But on some level, I don’t really care, I can’t deny how much better it made me feel during those few minutes when no one else knew what I’d done.
