The Little Secret I Keep From My Caregiver

Anonymous Pouty Star #127 · General Confessions

So here's a thing that happened recently. I work at this small local store where we all know each other well enough to call out funny nicknames and such, but there are rules you gotta follow like being extra careful with the stock because it’s limited stuff. But let me tell ya, one day things got so hectic that the little switch in me just took over, and I found myself sneaking into the snack drawer where we're not supposed to take anything without paying customers seeing us do it. It was this tiny act of rebellion against the strictness, a way for my little self to say 'screw you' to all those rules. Of course, there's also this caregiver side in me that wants to follow every rule perfectly, but sometimes they butt heads pretty hard. Now here’s where it gets interesting. When I was caught in the act by one of our regular customers who practically raised their kids at this place, my cheeks burned like crazy as I had no choice but to admit what I did. The customer, being a regular and all, didn't make a big deal out of it but gave me that look that said 'we’re not telling your boss about this.' It’s one thing to break the rules when you're alone in the backroom, another entirely to get caught red-handed like that. After work, my caregiver side took over once more. She called me into her office (yes, we have an actual room for our little world), and it was all about me confessing what I did while she gave me this lecture about responsibility and how actions affect others. It felt weirdly comforting even though there was no escaping the discipline that followed, just a small time-out from any treats or privileges until my behavior proved better. But here's the thing: deep down, despite feeling guilty, part of me liked the attention it brought, and in an odd way, I missed the little act of rebellion. This is one of those confessions where you're like 'It’s not a big deal but something about it sticks out.' It’s small enough to seem silly talking about, yet somehow feels significant in our dynamic.
