New to DDLG

I recently started exploring dynamic relationship roles with a partner who's about ten years older. We agreed on a trial age-play scenario where I adopted a 18+ little space role, but the emotional intensity is overwhelming me. Is this level of emotional engagement normal for beginners in DDLG? Advice appreciated.
