The Caregiver's Dilemma

Anonymous Shy Peach #313 · General Confessions

I've been married to my husband for five years now. He's an officer in the Navy and I'm his civilian spouse. We both have a very complicated relationship that involves elements of Dominance/Submission play, but more recently it's shifted towards an adult little/large dynamic where I often take on the role of a little girl while he acts as my caregiver. We've always been open about our desires and have a safe word to end scenes if needed. However, over the past few months, there has been an underlying tension because I'm struggling with my identity in this relationship. On one hand, I love feeling cared for and protected by him when we engage in our roleplay activities; it's comforting after everything he deals with on a daily basis at work. But on the other hand, sometimes when I'm acting as his little, I feel like I’m not contributing enough to our relationship. I worry that I'm becoming too dependent and that it’s unfair for him to solely be my caregiver while I play this part most of the time. He says he enjoys being in control and taking care of me, but what if one day he doesn't want to anymore? Our dynamic has been so central to our relationship that I find myself questioning whether we’re balanced or healthy. Am I just using him as a crutch because my life can be chaotic sometimes? Or is this an expression of love and mutual understanding within our consensual boundaries? I know there’s no right or wrong answer in kink relationships, but I need advice on how to navigate these feelings without damaging what we have. Should I try to take on more caregiver roles myself? Is it okay for me to still enjoy being his little if I feel like he needs someone to look after? I’d love to hear from others who might be in similar situations or have thoughts on finding balance within a DDLG dynamic. How do you handle these conflicting emotions and ensure both partners are satisfied with the arrangement? Please share your stories in the comments.
