Lost in Play

I'm a first-year law student and I've started roleplaying as Mommy. Tonight was rough, I disciplined my sub like a real parent would, spanked hard until both of us were crying. Feels wrong sometimes, am I just playing out childhood traumas or is this normal kink? Need advice.
