Post-Divorce Play

Just started dating a sub in her early twenties who's into DDLG stuff. Tonight was our first time actually acting it out, let’s just say, I didn't anticipate that side of the dynamic at this stage in my life! Am I totally off-base here, or does anyone else find themselves unexpectedly drawn to these roles? What am I missing?
