My Dark Secret in the Consulting Room

Anonymous Fuzzy Cupcake #108 · General Confessions

I’ve always been a reserved person, but I never imagined my private life would ever intersect with my professional one. Last week, while treating a patient for severe anxiety and depression, we started to explore alternative therapy methods together. We decided on something unconventional, a session where I played out some of my fantasies related to BDSM. Surprisingly, it was incredibly therapeutic for both of us. She opened up about her own kinks in ways she hadn’t with other therapists. As the hours went by, our roles blurred and we found ourselves deeply connected on a level neither of us expected. It felt wrong yet liberating at the same time. Now, I’m left wondering if it’s ever appropriate for a therapist to engage in this kind of intimate exchange with a patient. Does what we did cross ethical boundaries or was it just an anomaly that should never happen again? Am I overthinking this, or is there something inherently problematic here?
