Wearied by Pleasure and Pain

I work retail all day, standing on my feet, counting cash registers until I want to scream. Then, at night, I switch roles, sometimes taking care of someone who needs me to be their guardian or authority figure, other times letting them take care of me as a little one. It's exhausting, but it feels right. I feel like a different person in each role, yet both versions are deeply me. Last week, when the stress got too much at work and I came home with my head spinning from numbers and fake smiles, I decided to let go completely. I turned into a needy little, asking for cuddles and soothing words, something that usually calms me but left me feeling more raw than usual. Later, I swapped gears again, acting as the one in control, making decisions on how we'd spend our time, what games we'd play, and when it was bedtime. The night ended with an exchange of affection, a mix of gentle touches and strict rules that felt both freeing and restrictive. At dawn, though, I woke up to the silence and emptiness, missing the warmth but also the control. It's hard to explain how something so intimate can leave you feeling so alone.
