I Broke My Own Rules While On Duty
Anonymous Fuzzy Star #595 · General Confessions
Hello everyone, this is a really small thing I did last night but it's been bothering me all day. So here goes: I work nights at a factory, and my partner and I have this little dynamic where they act like the parent in charge while I'm at work. It’s part of our DDLG setup, you know? They’re always very strict about following the rules I set up for myself to keep focused on the job. Last night, we agreed that I'd stay late and finish an extra shift, but there was a condition - no snacking until midnight when my real meal break starts. Now, everyone knows how distracting hunger can be in our line of work, so this is actually more important than just a silly rule. Around eleven PM though, as the night wore on and things slowed down at work, I found myself getting really hungry. My hands were shaking slightly with exhaustion and anxiety over having to push through another hour before my break. The snack bar was right there - an unattended cart with some stale crackers and a jar of peanut butter. I couldn’t help but feel like maybe if I just had a little something, it would steady me for that last stretch. I know, you’re probably thinking ‘so what?’. But these rules aren't just about following orders; they're supposed to make us both proud of how well we can stick to our agreements. When I grabbed a handful of those crackers and scooped some peanut butter from the jar - knowing full well that this was against my promise - I felt so ashamed. I couldn’t bring myself to even look at the camera in my office where they could see me, afraid to face the disappointment and the scolding I knew would come. Even now, hours later, all I can think about is how much worse it’s going to feel when we talk this morning. I just wanted a little bit of comfort, but instead, I broke one of my own rules that was designed to help me perform better at work and in our dynamic. It might sound trivial, but breaking the rules feels like letting down myself and my partner. That’s why I feel so terrible about it. I guess I’m just here because I need to confess this.
