Taking Care of My Kitten Adult
Anonymous Peachy Kitten #517 · General Confessions
I’ve been taking care of my partner, Alex, for a few years now. It started when they were going through a tough breakup and needed someone to lean on. I was there day and night, helping with chores, listening to them vent about their ex, and generally just being supportive. Over time, the dynamic shifted into something that felt more like an adult version of a parent-child relationship without labels or strict boundaries. We never talked about it explicitly; it just kind of happened organically. Alex began referring to me as 'Mama' when they were feeling particularly vulnerable or needed extra care. I’d make them tea, tuck them into bed with books read aloud until they fell asleep, and listen patiently whenever life got too overwhelming. It’s something that brought us closer in ways we hadn’t anticipated. People often ask me if it feels weird being 'that kind of partner'. The truth is, it doesn't feel weird at all, it feels natural. Alex has grown so much under this dynamic; they’ve become more confident and independent, but also know they have a safe space to fall back on when things get rough. There’s no denying that there are moments where our roles blur or where we both forget the adult nature of what we’re doing together. A part of me loves those moments because it means Alex can let go and be themselves without judgment. I’m proud of how far they’ve come, and I feel honored to have played a part in their journey. This is my confession: there’s no shame or guilt about the way our relationship evolved naturally into something that provides both strength and comfort. It works for us.
