A Little Dabble with My Student
Anonymous Cherry Cub #579 · General Confessions
So here's a little confession that might make me sound like an eccentric professor but it’s pretty true. Last semester, I had this student who was just so eager to learn and curious about the world. We started meeting for coffee before class once in a while to chat more freely than during lecture time. He reminded me of myself when I was his age, intellectually hungry, eager to explore different ideas and perspectives. One day, we were talking about DDLG dynamics and he mentioned how intriguing it was that older women could take on little roles with younger men, reversing the typical power structure in such a consensual way. It got me thinking... What if I acted like his intellectual little sister during our coffee dates? You know, peppering him with questions about history or science, playing the role of the student who's desperate to soak up all this knowledge he’s acquired over the years. I decided to give it a go one day and was surprised by how much fun I had! It made us both laugh and learn in ways our normal academic discussions couldn’t. But now I’m wondering if anyone else here has ever tried something like this with a student or mentee? Is this a thing that happens more often than I realize, or is it just me being weird? Would love to hear what others think!
