The Caregiver Within Me Emerges
Anonymous Shy Duckling #468 · General Confessions
I’ve always felt this internal struggle between being a little and caring for someone. Since my divorce last month, I’ve finally allowed myself to fully embrace both sides of me, the child within who craves affection and protection, and the caregiver who wants to nurture and guide. It’s been incredibly liberating yet challenging. There was one night recently where I found myself crying on a friend’s shoulder, feeling so lost and vulnerable. She held me as if she were my mother, her touch gentle but firm, reminding me that it’s okay to be weak sometimes. In return, I made dinner for her the next day, cooking has always been my way of expressing care and love. It was like a switch flipped in both directions; I received comfort while offering support. This newfound balance feels right, though it's scary too.
