Discovering My Kink in an Unexpected Place

Anonymous Sugar Cupcake #312 · General Confessions

So I've been working as a nurse for about 10 years now. It's not the easiest job, but it's rewarding in its own way. Recently, though, something unexpected has happened. A few months ago, I started feeling a strange attraction to my patients, but not sexually or romantically, at least not in any traditional sense. What I found myself drawn to was this idea of taking care of them and being the authority figure they look up to for guidance and support when they're vulnerable. I know it sounds odd, especially since I've always been strict with my boundaries as a healthcare provider. But there's something about seeing someone at their most fragile that triggers some kind of kink in me, maybe it’s the sense of power dynamics or control? It’s all very confusing to be honest. The first time I really felt this was during an interaction with a patient who had just suffered a traumatic injury. They were scared, disoriented, and completely dependent on my care. As I held their hand, explained every step of what would happen next, and reassured them about the medical procedures they needed to endure, something shifted inside me. Since then, I've noticed this feeling more often, a deep need to guide and protect someone who is in a state where they have to rely on another person. It's not just with patients either; it’s been happening more and more when I encounter others going through tough times outside of work too. The kicker though? I don't think my wife knows about any of this yet. I'm still processing what all this means, but the truth is, these feelings are exhilarating for me, a secret kink in an otherwise straightforward life. I feel like such a hypocrite for finding myself so intrigued by this power dynamic in a setting where I’m supposed to be impartial and non-judgmental. I don't know how much of this I can share with my wife, let alone whether it's something I should explore further or leave behind. For now, all I can do is acknowledge that there’s this side of me that’s just beginning to emerge and trying to figure out where it might lead.
