..A Caregiver's Dilemma..
Anonymous Blushing Sprite #145 · General Confessions
I've been working in retail for five years now, but it's the last six months that have really tested my limits. I started taking care of a customer who became more than just someone buying things from me... He's forty-five and has always treated me like I'm younger than him, maybe around his daughter’s age, and while he never actually said anything out loud about it, there was an unspoken understanding between us that we were playing this kind of role. It started with little favors in the store, then progressed to him sending messages asking if I could help with small things outside of work too... and eventually led to something more serious. At first, it felt like a breath of fresh air, something different from my normal routine at home where there's not much happening. The dynamic we created was comforting because he knew how to make me feel protected and cared for in ways that were lacking elsewhere. We’d go out for coffee or take walks in the park together, him guiding, leading like a father might do with his child. But as time went on, I found myself struggling between enjoying this dynamic and feeling conflicted about it, like there was something unhealthy brewing underneath all our carefully constructed rules and boundaries. The emotional support he provided was unparalleled... but what if those emotions started to feel more than just platonic? What did that mean for the roles we had set up? One day, after he'd helped me deal with a tough situation at work, I broke down crying in his arms. It felt relieving to open up about my fears and insecurities, but it was also terrifying because now there were these new feelings between us that made everything even more complicated. ...and then, one night over dinner, he suggested we should try to take things to the next level, intimacy within our little space, if you will. It wasn't something I'd planned for or necessarily wanted, but the idea of being closer in this context seemed too enticing to refuse... I'm still grappling with all these emotions and decisions. Is it okay to feel cared for by someone like this when they're not just a friend? What about if those feelings start shifting? It's so confusing... And yet, every time we meet up, I find myself looking forward to it despite the questions that linger in my mind. ... I'm here confessing because I need some clarity. This isn't something anyone else knows about, I've been keeping everything inside for too long now and it's getting harder to keep pretending everything is normal. It's time to acknowledge this part of myself even if it means admitting that maybe there are consequences I'll have to face... ...
