Caregiving and Boundaries

Anonymous Playful Peach #256 · General Confessions

I've been a nurse for over a decade now, always the one to hold it together. But there's this thing with a client that's got me all twisted up. We started as strictly professional, a patient needing care and I providing it. But lately, he's been testing my limits. Like last week, when he asked if I would stay past my shift for a little 'tutorial' on medication management, clearly not about the meds. Or maybe he thinks because I'm always so put together, I'm also immune to these types of games? Now I find myself wondering what it would be like to let go and see where this could lead. It's not that we're breaking any rules exactly, we both know our boundaries, or at least I thought we did. But now there’s a part of me that wonders if other caregivers have felt the same tug between duty and desire. Is it normal for someone in my position to feel drawn into something so unconventional? Am I losing my grip on professionalism?
