A Little Bit Lost In Caregiving?
Anonymous Shy Bunny #632 · General Confessions
So here's my thing. I've been in this relationship for a couple of years now with Alex. We're both 28, and our dynamic has always been about trust and mutual enjoyment in different roles. Sometimes we play caregiver, other times little one. It's not just role-play; there's real affection and respect involved. Recently though? Well, I'm starting to feel like the care aspect might be crossing some lines for me. Here’s a bit of backstory: About six months ago, Alex took on more of a caregiving role during a rough period in my life where stress from work was getting to me pretty badly. She became very supportive and protective, kind of like a parent would be, cooking meals, making sure I got enough sleep and didn't overwork myself. It helped tremendously at the time. But now that things have gotten better, I still sometimes slip into a mindset where I expect her to solve my problems for me or be there with all these caregiver duties when it's not really fair on her side of the relationship. The other day, we were planning an outing, and before she could suggest something fun to do together, I was already asking if she had planned meals and a schedule for the trip, kind of like a parent would for a child going away for summer camp. I love Alex so much and really don't want this dynamic to become one-sided or unfair. It's just that sometimes, even as a grown-up playing little roles, it feels natural to expect care without giving back equally. So my question is, am I the asshole here? Is it normal for someone in a caregiver role to feel like they're not needed when times aren't stressful anymore? Or should we find another way to keep both sides of our dynamic happy and balanced? On a completely unrelated tangent, have you ever noticed how your favorite childhood snacks just taste different now as an adult? Maybe it's nostalgia or maybe my taste buds actually changed. But anyway...back to the caregiving issue! So any thoughts on this would be super appreciated! I'm all about openness and making sure our relationship stays healthy.
