I've always been very strict with myself when it comes to my personal rules. As someone who works from home as a freelancer, I set strict boundaries and daily routines that help me stay focused and productive. Part of this includes not allowing any distractions during specific work hours. One day, while in the middle of an important project, something caught my eye, a box of chocolate truffles I had been saving for a special occasion...but today didn't feel like one of those days. The temptation was too strong...I took one...and then another...and before I knew it, half the box was gone. It felt so wrong, not just because I broke my rule about eating sweets during work hours but also because it made me feel unprofessional and out-of-control. I'm normally good at sticking to these rules...but this time, something snapped inside of me and all sense of discipline flew out the window. Eating them wasn't even satisfying anymore; instead, I just felt sick to my stomach with guilt. What made it worse was that I knew deep down that breaking this rule wasn't about the sweets at all, it was a symptom of feeling stressed and burnt-out from overworking myself recently. And here I was, letting something so small derail me completely...
