My Journey into Little Space
Anonymous Velvet Moth #689 · Little Space
So, yeah...I’ve kind of been sneaking away into this strange little headspace when no one’s around lately. It started with just buying some kid stuff and playing with them as an adult thing for fun but then it turned weird fast.
I got a set of crayons and some coloring books, nothing big. But something about holding the crayons, using those funny plastic things to keep pages from tearing when you color...it’s like I’m six again or something. Anyway, one day I was having a rough time at work, so I decided to take it easy by making myself hot chocolate and watching some old cartoons. That felt good. It really did.
But then I started playing around more with my stuffed animals, those cute little bears and bunnies that were just laying around gathering dust in boxes. They became like companions again. I’d hold them close, talk to them out loud as if they understood me and needed comforting back too. I thought it was a bit silly at first but also kind of soothing. Like a break from reality.
And then last night...I don’t know how else to put this...I dressed up in old pajamas my mom gave me years ago, ones that are way too small now with little bunnies on them. I sat by the window watching snow fall outside as if waiting for someone to come tuck me into bed, me pretending to be a kid all over again.
It sounds so weird when you put it out there like this. And honestly, part of me still thinks it’s really odd and embarrassing. But another part feels better somehow, I can’t explain why exactly but just that sinking back into childish things has been comforting in a way I didn’t think possible as an adult.
I’m still working through how much to share with others about this little space of mine. For now, it’s just my secret thing, my escape from the stress and pressure of being a grown-up.
