Caught Snacking Behind Closed Doors

I've always prided myself on being the responsible Daddy figure in our relationship, setting a good example and keeping a close eye on my little's behavior. So when I found her with a stash of candy hidden away behind closed doors last week, it hit me pretty hard. She had been sneaking sweets after I specifically told her to limit them because they were making her hyperactive and causing her trouble in school. To make matters worse, she tried to cover up the snacking by lying when I asked if she ate anything extra that day. It felt like a slap in the face, not just for breaking my rule but also for betraying my trust so directly. As much as I wanted to scold her or take away privileges because of it, part of me understood why she did it too, those sweets are comforting, and sometimes they're all you need when feeling down. But rules are rules, and while this wasn't a major offense in the grand scheme of things, it was still important for her to learn accountability. So, I had a heart-to-heart with my little about honesty and the importance of adhering to our established guidelines. We worked through why breaking those rules can cause issues and how we can better communicate to avoid misunderstandings like this in the future.
