Night Shift Ramblings

Been on nights for the last month and tonight was a doozy. Had this one case where this little came in looking all sad-eyed and needed some serious daddy love. I ended up sitting with them till they fell asleep, made sure to keep it light but still gave that stern reminder about how they're 18+ now and need to step up their game. Felt good putting on the authoritative voice, even if it's just a game. And yeah, we all need that reminder every once in a while that we're adults with adult responsibilities. So many nights like this where you wonder what goes through their minds when they leave, do they really take to heart those lessons or is it all just for show? Sometimes I think it’s the latter but then again, maybe not. The point is, there's something comforting about being that steady hand in someone else's life, even if only temporarily.
