Freelance Life and Little Play

Anonymous Bratty Star #346 · General Confessions

I work from home as a freelancer, and sometimes I get into this little play mode. It's weird how switching my mindset can change everything. Today, I was so into it that by lunchtime, I felt like... well, not quite a kid but certainly younger than I am. My partner knows about it, of course, we've played out these scenarios before. But today was different. We were in this cozy little space I set up just for moments like this - all soft blankets and stuffed animals. It started with me asking him to pretend I'm still learning how to do simple tasks around the house. You know, stuff a kid might learn from an older sibling or parent. And he was so into it too! He even let me help clean up after dinner as if everything was new and exciting. We had this moment where we were both in character, totally immersed. But then I started thinking about how this whole dynamic works outside of these play sessions. In real life, when my partner talks to me like he does during our little space times - with patience and kindness, but also authority and guidance - it makes me feel so protected and cared for. It's hard to explain, but it really lifts a weight off my shoulders. I guess I'm wondering if this is something others do too? Am I the only one who finds comfort in stepping back into an imaginary role where someone takes care of them? And how can you keep that balance between play and real life without blurring the lines too much? It's not like it's a full-time thing - just occasionally when we both feel like it. But it makes me wonder if there are other ways to incorporate this kind of mental shift into your everyday routine, beyond just roleplay sessions.
