A Little Slip-Up at Work

Anonymous Giggly Pixie #520 · General Confessions

Well, this week has been a real drag. The workload is piling up like it's trying to crush me under the weight of responsibility and I just want to crawl into bed and hide from everyone. But that’s not how things work here, so I’ve been plowing through as best as I can. I was supposed to finish this report by yesterday afternoon but my day got a bit derailed, got involved in a project meeting that went on longer than expected and then somehow ended up browsing social media for the rest of the day. By the time I finally sat down to do some work, it felt like my brain had solidified into concrete. I should have told the boss what happened but something inside me just wanted to avoid that awkward conversation where he would give me that look, knowing exactly how much more effort I need to put in. So, instead of being honest, I decided to try and play catch-up over the weekend. Now I feel like a failure for not sticking to my guns and finishing the work on time. It’s funny because I’ve never been one to break rules or really do anything against protocol at work, it just felt necessary this week, like sneaking a snack when you’re told there are none allowed. But as an adult, shouldn’t I know better than that? Maybe it's not about breaking the rule but more about my fear of disappointing others and myself. I’m starting to feel guilty for letting everyone down, even though they might be thinking 'It’s just one week.' I keep telling myself that next time will be different, I’ll push through, maybe even take on some extra hours if needed so no one feels let down by me again. But right now all I want is a break from it all and to feel like I’m not failing at my job. This little slip-up has really hit home how much pressure there can be when you have responsibilities that aren’t just your own anymore.
