A Small Disobedience

Anonymous Midnight Cub #734 · General Confessions

I remember one night feeling so defiant and little, even though I'm a grown man now. My daddy had told me not to eat any sweets before dinner, but the chocolate cake looked too irresistible. I snuck into the kitchen after he went out for a bit and indulged in that sweet taste of rebellion. It was just one slice, but it felt like so much more, like sneaking back to childhood naughtiness. The guilt hit me hard when I heard his key in the door and saw him walking toward me with that look in his eyes. He didn't scold me heavily, but the way he looked at me made me feel small again for a moment. That one little act still leaves me feeling like I need to make it up to him.
