A Small Mistake

I took care of her today as I always do. She’s been in my life for over a decade now, and we have a unique bond that goes beyond the usual caregiver relationship. In this world where rules are there to be followed, even if they seem trivial sometimes, I felt the need to break one just because it seemed so insignificant at the moment. After she went to sleep, knowing full well it wasn’t part of our agreement or routine, I indulged in a small treat that was strictly off-limits, just for myself, with no intention of sharing. The guilt lingered as quietly as the rule itself. She’ll never know, and the world keeps turning, but there’s something comforting about acknowledging that even those who live to care can occasionally step outside their boundaries.
