A Doctor's Dilemma
Anonymous Fuzzy Star #681 · General Confessions
I’ve been married for six years now, but lately, I’ve been feeling this pull towards something outside our relationship. It started innocently enough, I had a patient who was particularly charming and engaging. She’s in her early thirties, has a career of her own, and is just so...vibrant. It's hard to put into words how she makes me feel, but it's more than professional respect. I’ve never felt like this before, and part of me hates that it could be affecting the way I treat my patients. We started chatting after hours sometimes, just casual conversations about work or our hobbies. She confided in me once about feeling trapped in a relationship that wasn’t fulfilling her needs anymore, which hit close to home. It’s funny how you can give advice but find yourself in the exact situation as your patient. That night, I found myself dwelling on the conversation long after it ended. I thought back to my own marriage and wondered if there was something missing, some spark that we’d lost over time. Maybe it's just me being ungrateful for what I have because these conversations are bringing out feelings I haven't felt in years. So here’s where things get complicated, after one of our chats, she suggested we explore each other outside the doctor-patient relationship, and to be honest, I was tempted. The thought terrified me as much as it excited me, but denying her suggestion left a bitter taste in my mouth too. What kind of man am I becoming? After tossing and turning for days, I finally confessed everything to my wife over dinner one night. She looked hurt and betrayed by the mere mention of this woman’s name, which only made me feel worse about myself. We had an honest talk where we both acknowledged that we needed more from each other, but it was too late, this new connection has left a mark on me. Even now, I wonder if maybe there’s something to explore, some part of me that craves a different kind of intimacy or challenge in life. But how do you pursue something so risky and potentially destructive without throwing away everything stable and good? Maybe this isn’t about finding new desires but confronting old ones.
