Navigating Uncharted Adult Terrains
Anonymous Fuzzy Kitten #296 · General Confessions
I'm a nurse in my early 30s who has recently discovered a rather surprising kink within myself that I'm still trying to understand. It started innocuously enough, perhaps as an escape from the grueling hours and emotional toll of my profession, where every day feels like it's filled with life-and-death situations and endless paperwork. But somewhere along the line, I began imagining scenarios involving a dominant figure, a parent-like presence who would oversee me in ways that are quite different from typical romantic or sexual dynamics. It might seem odd to say this as someone whose job is helping patients navigate their own health issues and personal boundaries. Yet here I am, finding myself fantasizing about being told what to do, not just regarding work-related tasks but everything else too. This thought feels unsettling because while there’s a certain sense of freedom in losing control within the safe confines of my imagination, there's also a nagging worry that this desire stems from unresolved issues or unhealthy patterns. I've never acted on these fantasies; they remain private and personal to me so far. However, the more I think about it, the less sure I am if indulging in them is purely harmless daydreaming or indicative of deeper problems needing attention. What confuses me even further is that while the idea seems enticing when I'm feeling overwhelmed, at other times, particularly after reflecting on my career and personal life, it feels deeply out-of-place. Given how unusual this fascination appears to be, I’m hesitant to speak with friends or colleagues about it for fear of being misunderstood. So instead, here I am, seeking opinions from strangers online, hoping someone might offer insight into whether what I'm experiencing is something most adults grapple with, a phase that will pass naturally as my life progresses, or if there's truly cause for concern. Is this just an extension of the adult fantasy world many indulge in without repercussions? Or is it indicative of deeper issues about control and freedom? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
