A Small Slip-Up
Anonymous Starry Bean #340 · General Confessions
I had this really boring week at work. Nothing was going right, and I just wanted to feel a little bit naughty, but in the most harmless way possible. So I decided to skip doing my chores around the house on Saturday morning, you know how it is, waking up late and not wanting to face that pile of laundry. It’s funny how such a small thing can weigh so heavily on your mind though. I’m usually pretty good about following rules, but there was just something about feeling like I could let myself off the hook for one day that felt... liberating. And then Sunday hits and suddenly all this guilt comes flooding in. It’s not even like it was a big deal, no one would’ve noticed if I didn’t do them. But I couldn’t shake this feeling of defiance, you know? Like I’d slipped through some sort of mental barrier that usually keeps me compliant and responsible. It made me think about how sometimes I just need to break the rules for my own sanity, even if it’s something as small as not doing the dishes when they’re dirty. But also, there’s this part of me that feels like a child who gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar, so vulnerable and scared of disappointing someone important. It was such an odd mix of feelings, but mostly I just felt silly for giving myself such a hard time over something so trivial. Maybe next week will be better, or maybe I’ll just find another way to let myself off the hook again. But honestly? The weight of guilt isn’t really worth it.
