A Small Slip-Up When I Should Have Known Better

Anonymous Velvet Moth #880 · General Confessions

So yeah, today wasn't my finest day. You know how it is when you're supposed to be the grown-up and the one in charge? Well, sometimes even grown-ups need a reminder. It's like I was just doing my thing, minding everyone else’s business, making sure they got their chores done, meals eaten, baths taken... all of that good stuff. But then there was this one moment where I sort of slipped up myself. And it wasn't anything huge, you know? Just a little thing, but it felt like a big deal to me because I take my role pretty seriously. I'd told everyone we were having fish for dinner tonight and that they needed to stick to their diets until then, no snacking on sweets or munching cookies. So there I was, in the kitchen, and what do you think catches my eye? A box of those oatmeal raisin cookies from last week's baking session staring right back at me from the counter. And you know how it is with those things, how one cookie just never leads to another... No, that didn't happen, but I still found myself sneaking a few bites while thinking, 'it’s okay, it's okay,' even though deep down, I knew better. And then there was the moment of realization and a little twinge of guilt. That feeling when you think, 'I am supposed to be the responsible one here' and yet... well, you didn’t quite act like it. So yeah, I guess I could say it's about me confessing this small slip-up in my day that made me feel like maybe even the caregiver needs a reminder sometimes.
