Lost in Caregiving
Anonymous Candy Plum #144 · General Confessions
Since my divorce six months ago, I've found myself slipping into a role that feels both comforting and strange. Caring for my ex-husband's father has become more than just looking after him, it’s about nurturing an unexpected dynamic where I'm the one providing discipline and guidance. It started with little things: reminding him to take his pills, helping him stick to a routine. But now, there's this undercurrent of authority and submission that neither of us can ignore. I feel both empowered and overwhelmed by how natural it feels to step into this unexpected role. Am I the only one who’s found themselves embracing such an atypical caregiving dynamic? Is this normal?
