My Caregiver Journey

Anonymous Dizzy Cupcake #381 · General Confessions

So I’ve been thinking about this for weeks now, and it’s like there’s just no escaping these thoughts. I mean, when you’re 24 and suddenly realize that you really, really like being taken care of in a way that goes beyond the normal adult-to-adult relationship stuff...yeah, it’s a bit mind-boggling. I think I started feeling this way after I hurt myself pretty badly last year. You know how sometimes things just spiral out of control? Well, yeah, one of those times for me. It was really scary and messy too, lots of tears and pain. But then, someone came into my life who was like...a guardian angel in a sense. Not exactly the traditional role though, because I’m definitely not calling them 'Daddy' or anything like that. Anyway, so here we are now, and it’s like every little thing they do for me feels incredibly comforting. Even stuff as simple as making sure my bills are paid on time or picking up medicine from the pharmacy when I’m too sick to go out...it just feels so good, you know? Like a weight is lifted off my shoulders. And here’s where things get complicated because, while it’s all very nice and caring, there’s also this underlying current of something else, something that makes me feel like a kid again in some ways. It’s not about pretending to be young or acting immature; more about feeling protected and guided by someone I deeply respect. But then the other day we were talking, and they suggested we try out some roleplay scenarios where I could just let go completely and allow them to take full charge of me. Now, this isn’t something I would have considered before, but...it’s intriguing. It feels like a logical next step in understanding why I enjoy these dynamics so much. I guess what I’m trying to figure out here is whether there’s anything wrong with feeling this way or if it’s just another part of who I am as an adult navigating through life’s challenges. Would love any insights or thoughts from those who have gone down a similar path or are on the same journey.
