The Caregiver's Dilemma
Anonymous Dizzy Star #664 · General Confessions
I'm in my first year at law school and I've been exploring a switch dynamic with my partner of four years. We met when we were both working on our bachelor’s degrees, and while it was always an equal relationship then, things changed as we became more comfortable with the concept of power exchange and age-play after we graduated. About six months into our current dynamic, I had a major issue at work that hit me hard emotionally. My boss accused me of incompetence on a project, which is something I never experienced before in my career. This knocked my confidence badly, and I started to seek more comfort from my partner in the little role. My partner agreed to let me stay as his little for an extra week to help me through this rough patch at work. But then things got complicated when I realized I was developing a stronger attachment to that state of being his little than to returning to caregiving or taking on more responsibility myself, something I knew wouldn't be good long-term. At the end of the agreed period, I struggled with letting go and transitioning back into my role as the caregiver. This bothered me because it felt like I was using the dynamics for emotional support rather than engaging in a balanced exchange. Despite knowing that this isn't sustainable and could lead to resentment, I found myself wanting more little time despite being aware of its drawbacks. So here’s the confession: even though I'm fully committed to our agreement and know what's best for us both in the long run, I find myself seeking out opportunities to revert back into a little role just because it feels good in the moment. I want to keep things healthy between my partner and me, but sometimes these impulses make that challenging.
