A Moment of Weakness

Anonymous Bratty Marshmallow #396 · General Confessions

As a caregiver for one of my most cherished young adults in my class, I've always prided myself on being the epitome of discipline and structure. We had this arrangement where we would spend time together every Sunday, going over lessons from the week and setting goals for the upcoming days. It's been an incredibly rewarding dynamic, both emotionally and intellectually fulfilling. But last Sunday, something unexpected happened. I skipped my morning yoga session, which is a routine I swore to uphold religiously as part of our discipline agreement. Instead, I found myself browsing through old books in my study. It was just one day, but the guilt lingered. Here I am, responsible for instilling strong habits and values, yet I faltered at one of my own rules. I felt like a child who got caught with their hand in the cookie jar, even though there were no cookies to be had that morning. The disappointment was real, and it's led me to reflect on why I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the expectations I set for myself. Despite this small slip-up, our Sunday session went well, I'm confident we can move past it, but it remains a moment of self-doubt in an otherwise steady relationship.
