The Unusual Comfort of Control in Retail

Anonymous Naughty Star #616 · General Confessions

I've always been a strong Mommy figure in my personal life. I have two young kids and am naturally protective and nurturing. What’s puzzling to me is how this maternal instinct extends to the workplace, even though it's completely inappropriate there. As a retail worker, sometimes when I notice mistakes or inefficiencies, I feel an overwhelming urge to take control, like I want to reprimand colleagues in a stern but caring way, akin to disciplining my kids for their safety and well-being. It’s strange because I know this dynamic doesn’t belong outside the home. Yet there's something oddly satisfying about it too, maybe a sense of order that aligns with how I manage things at home. But here’s the real head-scratcher: despite knowing it’s wrong to assert such authority in retail, I feel an unmistakable rush from it. Can anyone relate or have insight into why this might be happening? Is there something unhealthy about these urges and the way they make me feel? Or is this a normal extension of maternal instincts playing out elsewhere?
