Quick Fix for My Little's Mood Swing

Had a rough day at work? Thought my little would be there to cheer me up. Instead, she sulked and pouted like a brat. Tried the timeout chair but ended up spanking her lightly, seemed to do the trick, calmed her right down. Anyone else ever struggle with mood swings in this dynamic?
