Back in That Little Space Again
Anonymous Cherry Kitten #345 · General Confessions
I never thought I'd end up back in that little space again after being away from it for so long. It's been months since I last let go and became someone else, but today something just clicked. Maybe it was seeing an old picture on social media or maybe it was simply the sound of a familiar voice over the phone. Either way, I found myself in my childhood bedroom, sitting down at the desk where I used to do homework. Everything felt the same and yet so different. There were books spread out, just like when I was supposed to be doing chores or studying before playtime. But there's no one here to tell me what to do, and that's both liberating and terrifying. I took a deep breath and looked around at all the toys I thought I'd grown out of long ago. The stuffed animals, the action figures, the coloring books, they're not really for me anymore, are they? But sometimes it feels like coming back here is my way of reminding myself that there's still a part of me who needs to feel small and cared for. I remember how I felt when he'd walk in after school. How his eyes would light up seeing all the things set out just for him, or for us together. There was a rush, a flutter in my chest, that I could only describe as love and desire intertwined. It's not something you can explain to anyone who hasn't walked this path. So here I am again, trying to understand why I did it. Why I let myself fall back into those familiar roles when I know the risks. The vulnerability, the fear of being seen as someone other than a grown-up with responsibilities and commitments. But maybe that's exactly what I needed today, to be reminded that sometimes feeling like you're in control means giving up some of your power and letting yourself be taken care of. I'm not sure if this will happen again, or if it was just the one-off reminder I needed. What I do know is that it felt good to have someone else take charge once more. To let go of all the adult stuff and dive back into a world where everything made sense in its own little way.
