A New Path I've Been Exploring Lately
Anonymous Sugar Moth #966 · General Confessions
I've always been the type of person who kept my personal life very separate from work. As a nurse in my 30s, every day is about caring for others, dealing with pain and suffering, administering medication, and providing comfort. So when I found myself becoming more interested in something called DDLG, I felt like I was walking into an entirely new world that had nothing to do with the clinical environment of a hospital or clinic. It started as just curiosity. A friend mentioned it in passing one day and casually said she found it really therapeutic. She described this dynamic where there's an older figure guiding someone younger through certain scenarios, but I didn't fully grasp what it meant until I did some digging online. The idea of being guided by a nurturing figure felt oddly familiar to the way I connect with my patients - though very different. I hesitated for weeks before deciding to take the plunge and find an experienced partner to guide me through this dynamic. Part of me was terrified but also strangely hopeful that I could explore something new without losing myself in the process. My partner, let's call him Jonathan, is older than me and has decades of experience in DDLG. It took a few sessions just for us to get comfortable with each other. The first time we really delved into it felt like an awakening. I had imagined so many scenarios but none of them prepared me for the raw emotions that surfaced during our playtime together. Jonathan is incredibly patient, understanding, and nurturing - far beyond what I would have expected or thought possible in such a dynamic. I've never shared any of this with my colleagues, friends, or family. It feels so private and personal, even though it's consensual between adults. There are days when I worry someone will find out and judge me for exploring something unconventional like this. But then there are moments - especially after a session with Jonathan - where I feel incredibly grateful to have found this space within myself that allows for growth. Writing all of this down is hard. It feels almost like betrayal to my professional persona as a nurse, but it's also an act of honesty and self-reflection. I don't expect anyone to understand or agree with what I've chosen to do, but sometimes you just need to share these things for your own peace of mind.
