A Day Off from Mommying...

Anonymous Velvet Peach #904 · General Confessions

I'm in my late 30s now, and despite the title on my paycheck saying 'Registered Nurse', most of my time these days is spent as a mommy. It's not that I mind taking care of someone, far from it. But there are moments when you wish for just one day to be the nurse again, where you're taken care of... or rather, played with like a child. Last weekend, on a rare day off, I met up with an old friend who now serves as my playmate in these little games we've grown fond of. He's younger, still single, and knows how to handle me when I let him. We went to this cozy little cabin outside the city where all the usual mommy stuff happened... bedtime stories, baths, that kind of thing... There was one moment though, when we were lying on his lap after our playtime had ended. It felt so familiar and safe, like being a kid again. But I couldn't shake off this sadness, thinking about all the times in my own life where someone took care of me with such affection. Maybe that's why these games are important to me now... They remind me of a time when someone else did it without expectation or strings attached. I left the cabin feeling lighter than I had all week, but also somehow more aware of what I miss in my real life. It's an odd place to be, isn't it? Playing mommy and daddy just for fun...
