Guilty Pleasure
Anonymous Starry Peach #258 · General Confessions
I was sitting at my desk, books open and scattered about as I tried to study for a looming exam. The clock ticked, mocking the time slipping away from me. My mentor had given me strict instructions, no distractions, focus solely on your studies until you're done for the day. But there it was, in the corner of my room, tempting me with its glow: my phone. I told myself to stay strong, that this wasn't just about discipline now but about respecting a boundary I’d set as part of our dynamic. Yet, curiosity got the better of me and I picked up the device. A text from him popped up, a check-in, just one word: 'Progress?' Guilt washed over me instantly. The rules were clear and I broke them without even trying to hide it. It felt childish, like when I was younger and caught sneaking sweets. But this wasn't about the phone or the exam; it was about breaking his trust in my ability to follow through as a student and a partner in our dynamic. Now, with every second wasted on that device, I'm reminded of my lapse.
