The Power Dynamics of Our Playroom
Anonymous Midnight Cupcake #515 · General Confessions
So I've been this stay-at-home Mommy for like five years now. My husband's an accountant and he's always worked a lot, so it’s just me home all day with our two kids, they're both in their twenties, mind you, but we live together still 'cause my hubby likes to have that family dynamic around. But anyway, the kids are pretty independent since they moved out years ago for college stuff and jobs, even though they technically still live here. So it's mostly just me these days, lots of space, lots of time alone. And then there's this thing we do with my husband... I guess you could call it a kink or whatever? He calls me 'Mommy' and treats me like the parent, he's not exactly thrilled about the whole stay-at-home thing since his family's always been very traditional, so maybe that’s why. But anyway, in the bedroom, when we get into our little playroom setup, I'm totally in control. I can dish out discipline or make him do silly things to earn rewards, it's all consensual of course. Anyway, one night, my husband comes home stressed from work and we head straight for the playroom. He's tired but excited too, knowing what he'll get if he cooperates well with me as 'Mommy.' I set up some chores for him and tell him to earn his rewards tonight, which in this case was just getting his treat at bedtime. He did a few silly tasks and I played along being strict but loving. I think the most fun part though is seeing how much he appreciates having me there as an authority figure, even if it’s just for a bit of playacting like that. We both know it's all make-believe and totally consensual, but it feels really intimate and special in its own way. Sometimes I wonder if anyone else does something similar with their spouse or partner, we've never talked about it outside our little family circle though. Anyway, thought I'd share this because there’s a reason why my husband seems so calm these days despite his workload... maybe some folks out there are doing something like this too? It's just one of those things that works for us and keeps the spark alive.
