Little Mistake at Work

Anonymous Playful Pixie #858 · General Confessions

So here's the thing. I'm an office worker and Mommy to my partner in this dynamic we've created together. It’s been a fairly mundane week at work, nothing really exciting or new happening. But there was one little incident that's been bothering me all day. It started on Monday when our boss announced that we needed to keep the communal kitchen clean because of an upcoming audit. She gave us specific instructions and even sent out an email detailing who should do what each week. I read it, nodded along, and mentally filed it away like everyone else did. Fast forward to today, Thursday, which is my assigned day for cleaning duties in that rotation the boss set up. I woke up feeling a bit off, maybe just too sleepy from staying up late working on something personal, but either way, I didn't feel as sharp as usual. My little headspace kicked in more than usual, and while it's usually wonderful to be taken care of by my partner, today I felt like I needed an extra push to stay on top of things. After work this morning, instead of heading straight to the kitchen to start cleaning like I was supposed to, I took a quick detour for coffee. It wasn't exactly breaking any rules, but it also meant that the kitchen remained untouched and uncleaned by me until now. My partner is incredibly understanding about these things in general, but today there’s this nagging feeling of guilt weighing on me. It's not like I didn’t know what to do or how to clean; it was a simple oversight due to being distracted and maybe just tired. But the rules are rules for a reason, especially when someone else relies on them, and here we are in our DDLG dynamic where rules mean something more than just personal accountability, they’re also about trust and consistency. So now I’m stuck at home with this confession burning a hole in my stomach because I know my partner will be disappointed by my oversight. But what’s done is done, and the best thing to do is own up to it. It's not something that needs major action or even really any kind of punishment beyond understanding why I didn't follow through. Still, this little lapse feels like a bigger deal than it probably should because in our dynamic, following through on responsibilities means so much more than just keeping things tidy.
