A Small Lie I Told Myself
Anonymous Sparkly Sprite #168 · General Confessions
I'm Eleanor, in my early fifties, and I've been struggling to find a new sense of purpose since retiring from the corporate world last year. Today's confession is small compared to what others might share here, but it's heavy on emotional weight for me. A few weeks ago, I promised myself that I'd begin running again after my morning coffee break each day as part of a plan to reclaim some energy and independence I felt slipping away with age. But today, when the sun was just starting its ascent, instead of lacing up my shoes, I poured another cup and stayed inside. It's not like I'm breaking any command from an authority figure in a DDLG context, but there's something about that unfulfilled promise to myself that feels like a mild form of punishment, like a little girl disappointed by her own actions. The guilt sits with me as I type this out now, hours later, and it’s just another reminder of the battle between intention and follow-through in this chapter of my life.
